Faith Flourishing in Unexpected Places

Heather Rice Minus is the first female president of Prison Fellowship, a ministry founded in 1976 to exists to serve all those affected by crime and incarceration. If you ask Minus, one of the greatest surprises she has witnessed over the course of her career thus far is this: the Church is thriving behind bars.
"Often," Minus told Viral Jesus host Heather Thompson Day on a recent episode, "we start out with a posture of ‘we are coming to bring the hope of Jesus Christ inside.’ And when you do this work long enough, you realize when you get [to the prison] that [Jesus] is alive and well."
Throughout the podcast, Minus and Day discuss the ways that incarcerated individuals are finding faith and flourishing in it. They talk about misconceptions in the justice system and what it may look like to work toward a better way. In it all, they highlight the redemptive power of Christ—for those behind bars and those outside, as well.
