Dear Friend, For too long, people of faith have avoided making simple expressions of faith in public. And for too long, we’ve watched public expressions of faith slowly disappear from our communities. Throughout our lives, we’ve stood by while Ten Commandment monuments have been removed from our town squares and prayer in our townhalls and schools has been eliminated. But things have changed. Public expressions of faith can now be restored. |
My name is Kelly Shackelford. I am the President, CEO and Chief Counsel of First Liberty Institute. As a constitutional scholar who’s been fighting to protect religious freedom for 35 years, I can tell you that public expressions of faith are making a comeback. When we won a precedent-setting for Coach Joe Kennedy at the Supreme Court, we convinced the Supreme Court to do more than just give a coach his job back. In their ruling in our Kennedy v. Bremerton case, the justices changed the way the government looks at public displays of faith. Local, state and federal governments no longer have to abide by the flawed Lemon test. Instead, following the original meaning of the Establishment Clause, public expressions of faith are now evaluated by examining our nation’s history and tradition. Watch First Liberty’s Chief Legal Officer Jeff Mateer to learn more about the history and tradition test and how it impacts you and your hometown. |
With the law being more favorable toward religious freedom and expression, you can join the national movement to rebuild and restore historical public displays that have long been enjoyed all across our country. That’s why we are asking you to take the FaithBlazer Holiday Challenge to help bring expressions of faith back to your public square. And by joining our #FaithBlazer community, you will have access to the resources and legal advice you need to work with your local officials to restore faith and religious freedom in your town square. Will you become a FaithBlazer? Will you help restore public expressions of faith in your community? |
God has opened an incredible door to restore faith in America, and it’s up to you and me to walk through it. Grateful foryou, Kelly
