LOS ANGELES: ASM Global has appointed Kimberly Weedmark of Universal Studios Hollywood as the new general manager for the Los Angeles Convention Center. Weedmark has worked in the LA convention space for over two decades. In Weedmark’s new role, the former vice president of special events and group sales of Los Angeles’ most popular tourist attraction will work closely with the City of Los Angeles to grow the scope and impact of the convention center.
NEW ORLEANS: Last week, Kimpton Hotel Fontenot, located in the heart of New Orleans’ Central Business District, announced the anticipated January 2023 completion of a property expansion into the historic building next door, located at 521 Tchoupitoulas St. The new addition to the boutique hotel will include 33 new guest rooms and suites; over 12,000 square feet of meeting and event space; and King, a three-meal French brasserie with outdoor patio dining.
NEW YORK: On Nov. 2, chef Paul Liebrandt (previously of award-winning restaurant Corton) returns to the kitchen for one night only in partnership with Food Bank For New York City. To raise money for the organization whose mission is to feed New Yorkers, Liebrandt has curated a menu for this special dinner—taking place at Bistrot Leo—that celebrates the fall season, featuring ingredients entirely sourced from New York state. The dinner will feature four courses, accompanied by wine pairings. Tickets range from $300-$500 with two seatings (5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.) and are available for purchase online.
FX announced the opening of an exclusive shop in the West Village in celebration of the 11th installment of its hit anthology series, American Horror Story, AHS:NYC, which premieres on Oct. 19. The shop, dubbed AHS:NYC Shop, debuted Oct. 14 and will be open for a limited time at 328 Bleecker St. Here, fans of the show can unleash their darkest fantasies and immerse themselves into the world of AHS like never before. Reservations to attend the 18-and-over AHS:NYC Shop experience are required for entrance.
WASHINGTON D.C.: The board of directors of Events DC has named Angie M. Gates as the new president and CEO of the official convention and sports authority for the District of Columbia, following a comprehensive national search. Gates most recently served as DC’s director of the Office of Cable, Television, Film, Music, and Entertainment. With Events DC, she will guide the organization tasked with generating economic and community benefits for DC residents and businesses through premier events beginning on Nov. 14.
