People giving birth at University of Maryland Medical System facilities are getting an extra level of care from experts — even without those experts being physically present.

 

A team of nurses at a remote center in Linthicum use AI software to help monitor heartbeat and contraction trends through the birthing process. The team remotely oversees births throughout the healthcare system, from the main downtown Baltimore campus to faraway locales like La Plata in Charles County. 

 

“This program is fundamentally the nurses’ brains with the AI counterpart," nurse manager Christina Haas told Technical.ly, "just really sort of being a reinforcement and a help for them.”
