Note from the editor

The sizeable energy storage announcements this month are hard to ignore. One of the largest comes from Arizona Public Service, which revealed plans to install 850 MW of energy storage by the mid 2020s.

Many of the developments are planned to be paired with renewable energy such as solar. By 2021, APS will install:

  • 200 MW / 600 MWh energy storage with existing solar facilities
  • 100 MW / 300 MWh energy storage with 100 MW new solar
  • 150 MW / 300 MWh standalone storage

We are taking a closer look at the phenomenon of energy storage integration: watch your inboxes later today for the latest Utility Dive Spotlight on the topic, featuring an analysis of market-driven utility procurement and a closer look at Liberty Utilities' New Hampshire behind-the-meter storage pilot.
