The sudden death of the Legal Marijuana Now Party candidate means voters in Minnesota’s south-suburban 2nd Congressional District won’t elect a new member of Congress on Nov. 3 as scheduled. Instead, the seat will be filled in a Feb. 9 special election. Nearly 1,000 new COVID-19 cases reported today. Although there were 995 newly confirmed cases of COVID-19, that came as testing rebounded. That meant the positivity rate fell back below 5 percent, after approaching 7 percent in recent days. Hospital admissions also eased today, after topping 50 a day in the middle of this week. In the Twin Cities, Mike Pence, Ivanka Trump reiterate Trump's "law and order" message. Vice President Mike Pence and Ivanka Trump, the president’s daughter, are at the Minneapolis-St. Paul airport hotel for a campaign stop. They’re talking about the unrest following the police killing of George Floyd, and the president’s vow to crack down on civil unrest. Gov. Tim Walz activated dozens of National Guard members, to counter any potential disruptive protests during the visit. Ivanka Trump is also making a stop in Winona tomorrow.
