February is Black History Month

African American Men and Prostate Cancer: By the Numbers

Did you know that 1 in 6 black men will develop prostate cancer? This February, help raise awareness about the higher risk of prostate cancer within the African American community by sharing these statistics:

  • African American men are 1.8 times more likely to be diagnosed with prostate cancer than white men.
  • African American men are 2.2 times more likely to die from the prostate cancer. But if the disease is caught early, the five-year survival rate is nearly 100%.
  • If an African American man is diagnosed with prostate cancer today (at any stage), there is a 97% chance he will be alive in five years.
