Final 50th Anniversary ShowsSeptember in Moorhead, MN, & Minot, ND
On July 6, 1974, A Prairie Home Companion hosted its first LIVE broadcast from Macalester College in front of a small but loyal crowd. Who would have known that there would be far larger crowds over 50 years later. Throughout 2024, Garrison has gathered the full cast and crew together to stage a few shows monthly throughout the country, including a memorable return to the Fitzgerald Theater. Each one has seen poetry or limericks, a fair amount of music and duets, comedy sketches, sing-alongs, and the latest News from Lake Wobegon. The most important part of the shows has been the welcoming and boisterous audiences at every venue! Now, we are down to our final two 50th Anniversary shows and hope that you will consider joining us to salute the old show one more time. MOORHEAD, Minnesota, on September 26, 2024, at 7:30 p.m. Garrison got the name for A Prairie Home Companion from time spent in Moorhead, Minnesota — home to the Prairie Home Cemetery. The Fargo/Moorhead area has always been important to A Prairie Home Companion; one of the original places to offer the live broadcast. Garrison has often visited with APHC or his solo show, book tours or poetry readings. He even delivered a memorable News from Lake Wobegon story about “The Flood” of 1997. The fall season in Northern Minnesota — with its gorgeous foliage — is well worth a trip. Leaf peeping should be in full swing. Join us for a wonderful evening of songs, stories, sketches, and poetry. Minot, North Dakota, on September 28, 2024, at 5:00 p.m. Norsk Høstfest is a place where one can explore Nordic traditions at North America’s largest Scandinavian Festival. From entertainment to culinary delights, immerse yourself in a cultural experience. Discover ancient crafts, step into Viking Village, and embark on a Nordic adventure. Join us from September 25th to 28th at The North Dakota State Fair Grounds in Minot. So much to do and explore and the bonus is that the Prairie Home Companion 50th Anniversary Show will anchor the entertainment the final night from the Great Hall of the Vikings! Can you imagine the fun bits that may return from the PHC archives? Garrison’s epic love poem “The Finn Who Wouldn’t Take a Sauna,” the “I’m a Lutheran” song, maybe a few words from Lutheran Air or Ajua Hot Sauce, an Ole & Lena joke or two, a Guy Noir caper, or some other wonderful Lutheran or Scandinavian humor. How has it taken so long for Garrison to make an appearance Norsk Høstfest? Featured musician and duet partner for both shows:New York-based vocalist Christine DiGiallonardo is at home singing in early-music chamber ensembles as well as jazz and rock bands. She performs solo and with her sisters, Daniela and Nadia, as The DiGiallonardo Sisters, and her voice can be heard on commercial jingles for Aquafresh, Mr. Clean, Playtex, and Febreze. Her theater credits include Carousel (Live from Lincoln Center), Lady, Be Good! (City Center Encores!), The Sound of Music (Carnegie Hall), and My Fair Lady (Avery Fisher Hall). Christine has joined us for most of the 50th Anniversary shows, including our return to the Fitzgerald Theater where she sang this classic: This is a FREE NEWSLETTER.
