Stop Waiting to âFeel Readyâ God Equips the Willing
Itâs a phrase we say to ourselves more often than we realise: âIâll apply when I feel more confident.â âIâll step into that role when I feel ready.â âIâll say yes⊠once Iâve sorted myself out.â
But hereâs the truth: God rarely calls the âready.â He calls the willing. âNot that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.â â 2 Corinthians 3:5 (NIV)
Readiness in Godâs Kingdom doesnât come from self-assurance. It comes from obedience and trust. Some of the greatest steps of faith happen when we feel the least preparedâbut choose to respond anyway.
1. God Doesnât Need You to Be Ready. He Needs You to Say Yes Throughout Scripture, God consistently calls people who didnât feel qualified. Moses said he couldnât speak well. Jeremiah said he was too young. Gideon said he was the least in his tribe.
But Godâs response wasnât to boost their confidenceâit was to remind them who was sending them. When you wait until you feel ready, you often miss what God wants to do through your weakness. Heâs not looking for perfection. Heâs looking for surrender.
Reflection: Is there a role or opportunity youâve been hesitating to pursue because you feel underqualified? Choose to apply this weekânot because you feel ready, but because you trust God with the outcome.
2. Faith Grows When You Act with Obedience Faith doesnât grow by staying in our heads. It grows when we put it to work â when we obey before we feel certain, and trust before we see results.
In 1 Kings 17, Elijah encounters a widow during a famine. She has just enough flour and oil to bake one final meal for herself and her son â then she expects theyâll die. But God, through Elijah, asks her to do something radical: to use what little she has and bake bread for him first.
Itâs a moment of pure obedience. She had every reason to say no. But she said yes, and because of it, âthe jar of flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dryâ (1 Kings 17:16).
Thatâs how faith grows: not in theory, but in practice. Not in comfort, but in action. You may feel like you have very little left â emotionally, financially, even spiritually. But God isnât asking you to feel strong before you move. Heâs simply asking you to trust Him enough to take the next obedient step. Thatâs where faith deepens.
Reflection: Whatâs your âjar of oilâ right now? It could be time, energy, or effort. Offer it this weekâapply for that job, volunteer somewhere, write the email youâve been putting off. Trust that God will multiply what you place in His hands.
3. Obedience Prepares You for What God Has Prepared for You God never asks us to obey for the sake of activity. Every act of obedience is part of His preparation â not just for what Heâs doing around us, but for what Heâs forming within us.
When Mary received the message from the angel, she didnât ask for credentials or clarity. She didnât demand details. Her response was simple, yet profound: âBe it unto me according to thy wordâ (Luke 1:38, KJV). That was her yes â and it set her on a path that would require faith, humility, and surrender at every step.
God often calls us to say yes before we see the full picture. Not because He wants us to walk blindly, but because Heâs forming something deeper than understanding â Heâs building trust.
And often, the act of saying yes does more than lead to the next step. It strengthens your faith, enlarges your capacity, and aligns your heart with His will. This is how God prepares His people â not through comfort, but through obedience.
Reflection: Spend time in prayer this week and ask the Lord where Heâs prompting you to respond in obedience â even if the outcome isnât clear. Write it down. Donât rush it. Let your âyesâ be thoughtful, surrendered, and rooted in trust.
Final Thoughts If youâre waiting to feel ready before you move forward, you may be waiting longer than God ever intended. He isnât asking you to be perfect. Heâs asking you to be willing. Because the moment you say yes, not in fear or striving, but in faith, thatâs when the real work begins.
