Edison Jake didn’t know it, but we were flying from Oregon to Georgia and he’d be on more than one flight. I wasn’t sure how he’d do, but he does have the temperament for travel. He adapts easily to new situations. Part of the credit goes to his breed, Cavachon. That’s a fancy mutt term for a Bichon Frise and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel hybrid. This was a lot to ask of him, though. And I wasn’t my normal self. Normally, I think of myself as resilient and adventurous, but my world had unraveled. A year earlier, Matt, my amazing husband of thirty-four years, had died suddenly in an accident at home. Five weeks later, a windstorm hit, dropping towering evergreens on my front porch and garage.
