Saturday highs will be in the upper 50s to the mid-60s and Sunday in the mid-60s to 70s across the state. Floyd killing: Judge disqualifies HennCo Attorney Freeman from trial. The judge in the case Friday disqualified four Hennepin County prosecutors, including County Attorney Mike Freeman, from participating in the case. Judge Peter Cahill said it was “sloppy” that Freeman’s staff would meet with the medical examiner privately to discuss Floyd’s autopsy results. "An overdose of excessive force and racism" killed Floyd, family said after Friday's hearing. George Floyd’s family and their attorneys gathered outside a Minneapolis courtroom this afternoon livid over the defense teams' arguments about how Floyd died. The defense teams point to drugs in Floyd’s system at his time of death as the cause, not former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin’s knee on Floyd’s neck for nearly 9 minutes. Ben Crump, who represents Floyd's family, said after the hearing: "I want to be clear about this, the only overdose that killed Geroge Floyd was a overdose of excessive force and racism by the Minnesota, Minneapolis Police Department." A crowd gathered outside chanted “We’ve got your back”, as family members of Floyd spoke outside a Minneapolis courtroom Friday. State reports 13 more COVID-19 deaths, as Gov. Tim Walz extends peacetime emergency. Friday marked a fourth day of relatively moderate new case growth for COVID-19 in Minnesota, with another 484 infections reported. The potentially hopeful news on cases, however, was tempered by the fact that 13 more Minnesotans have died from the disease. At the state Capitol, the Legislature met in a special session as the governor extended his peacetime emergency by 30 more days.
