Dear John, In a moment I’m going to ask you to make a donation during OCW’s year-end fundraising campaign. But first, it’s important to share with you who your contribution supports. This year you helped us celebrate 20 years of MIT OpenCourseWare. One of the most exciting evolutions I’ve witnessed since I joined the OCW team in 2004 is who has used OCW over time. What began as a project for educators has grown to serve learners of all ages, each with their own aspirations and ambitions: There are the community college and university students who come to OCW to supplement their own coursework, to deepen their understanding, or simply because they’re hungry for knowledge on a topic that ignites their passion. There are the high school students who fall in love with a subject early on, and stumble upon OCW in their pursuit to know more. Often we hear that OCW helped steer them on a path to university, graduate school, or a career. The learners making a career change, who don’t have time or capacity to go back to school, but using OCW resources, self-assemble a course of study to demonstrate the knowledge they need to get them where they want to go. The lifelong learners who always wanted to study that one subject, be it biology or anthropology, but never had the chance until now, and who pick it up with OCW to feed their life’s curiosity. Even parents. Heartwarmingly, we hear from parents who turn to our resources to help stay connected with and learn alongside their children as they enter high school or college. When you give to OCW, you invest in their stories, in their potential, and in the power of shared knowledge to be a force for good for all humanity. Everyone who comes to OCW comes for a reason, and we believe anyone who wants to learn should have the chance. Will you take a moment to help fund OCW before the year ends? |
