Report: CDP Africa Report 2020

Africa accounts for the smallest share of global greenhouse gas emissions, at just 3.8%. Yet the continent is particularly vulnerable to climate change, and is working to tackle climate hazards head on. This year, CDP is working with 48 African cities reporting their environmental data, representing 31% of the continent's total population. The new CDP Africa Report benchmarks progress towards climate safe cities, states and regions across the continent.

The Norwegian Sovereign Wealth Fund has pushed for improved non-financial disclosure, Reuters, Mail Online UK, The Business Times, US News & World Report reports. For environment-related disclosures, the fund wants companies to use the CDP as a basis.


Forbes and Bloomberg explore the targeting of carbon-zero as Scope 3 emissions can contribute up to 90% of total carbon footprint. CDP found that altogether, oil and gas companies invested $22 billion in alternative energies since 2016, seeing opportunity in Offshore Wind and Solar Energy.


Bloomberg writes in wake of the annual Climetrics Fund Awards, ranking 17,000 funds on how their invested companies tackle emissions, water-management and deforestation. Storebrand Global Solutions was among the equity funds singled out last month for doing particularly well.


A new seminal article in Applied Energy identifies the technology and policies to enable net zero industrial greenhouse gas emissions by 2070.
