Bechtol, Jr. is a professor of political science at Angelo State University. A retired U.S. Marine, he served at the Defense Intelligence Agency in 1997-2003, eventually becoming the senior analyst for Northeast Asia in the Intelligence Directorate (J2) on the Joint Staff in the Pentagon. Mr. Bechtol holds a B.S. from Excelsior College, an M.A. from Catholic University, and a Ph.D. from the Union Institute.
