Returned to painting after a long hiatus. Did graphics at art school but did little with it. Didn't understand the potential. So I picked up a brush about ten years ago and painted a picture, badly!! Things improved a bit and a local gallery 'First sight' were kind enough to let me show my work. The work did sell but the quality just wasn't there. Painting was hit and miss. I wasn't in control. I bought a couple of instructional videos but they didn't help much. I also watched instructional videos on YouTube and got lulled into watching other people paint. Then the gallery closed and I just stopped painting. In 2018 I moved to France to look after my Mother. I had time on my hands and lived in the sticks. I painted a lot and began to improve. I realized that to paint well you had to paint ALL OF THE TIME. I am a work in progress but I definitely turned 'that corner'. Painting motto!? 'Loosen up!' |
