Admire 12 prize-shortlisted artworksPop your head into Bow Arts in east London between now and mid-April to admire 12 artworks shortlisted for the East London Art Prize. They include Gusty Ferro's prickly sculpture Untitled, Lasul Hoque's foodie photo An Ode to All the Flavours, and Yang Zou's bleakly beautiful 'I love you, life. I hope it's great again'. March through the history of Soldier MagazineChelsea's National Army Museum opens a free exhibition about the official magazine of the British Army. The Story of Soldier Magazine covers 80 years of the publication, since it was launched by Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery in 1945, looking at how it has recorded important moments in the Army's history, and shared them with troops based all over the world. Catch the final days of Lost Victorian CityYou've only got until Wednesday to visit the London Archives' current exhibition, Lost Victorian City: A London Disappeared, which displays watercolours, prints and documents showing parts of London which no longer exist. Highlights include images of a 17th century coaching inn, and the Crystal Palace at Sydenham, with lost aspects of London life such as horse-drawn transport and bustling docks also shown. Free, until 5 February. View two new exhibitions at Lauderdale HouseHighgate's Lauderdale House launches two new exhibitions simultaneously, including one which we're VERY keen to see. London Stories by Paul Hiles showcases stunning aerial views of London, delicate cityscapes which each take months to create, with incredible details. Though the drawings are primarily monochrome, look out for small splashes of colour which add depth and detail. Opening at the same venue on the same day is River and Bridges: Hope and Joy, an exhibition of colourful multimedia paintings by artist Hilary Rosen spanning English riverscapes, still lifes and more. Free, 5 February-3 March Stay late at Imperial CollegeImperial College's February late night opening has a theme of 'weird science'. Play quantum classic computer games, make mysterious maths Valentine's Day cards, or view a mushroom ballet show, as you learn about some of science's most surprising revelations. Other activities include an insect yoga class, and a subatomic silent disco. Age 18+. Free, 6 February. Celebrate Lunar New Year at the Horniman MuseumAlso open late on Thursday is the Horniman Museum in Forest Hill, where the Lunar New Year celebrations continue. Explore the collections and galleries after hours, and enjoy entertainment including a musical performance from Daniel Tsz-shing Lei, calligraphy workshops, tea tastings and talisman making. Have a cheap laugh at Cuddles for TroublesComedians fresh to the circuit perform five-minute slots at Cuddles for Troubles, a friendly comedy night that takes place above the Trinity in Borough every Friday night. Mark LGBTQ+ History Month at a Trans Music TakeoverWriter and performer Travis Alabanza hosts a trans music takeover, giving trans voices in music and the performing arts a spotlight, with special guest performances from Jason Kwan, TRIBE, Tobi Adebajo, and Kyoko Takenaka (WasteWowxn), Petals, and Trans members of My Blood Is My Voice & Nawi Collective. Simmer Down at Southbank CentreGet your dancing shoes on and head to Southbank Centre for the free monthly Simmer Down reggae revival session. Immerse yourself in the infectious energy of reggae music, and dance along. Everyone's welcome, though the sessions are most popular with older adults, and parents with young children. Create your own menagerie of elephantsTake the kids along to Lambeth's Garden Museum on Sunday for a free creative session, where you can create a colourful collage of elephants inspired by the current Lost Gardens of London exhibition.
