Blessed Assurance was penned by Fanny Crosby in 1873, with the music composed by Phoebe Knapp. The hymn's creation is a story of collaboration and inspiration. Phoebe Knapp, playing a new melody, asked Crosby what it evoked, and Crosby instantly responded with the hymn's opening line: "Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!" The hymn has been sung in churches for over 150 years and was sung extensively in the Moody and Sankey revivals in the UK and US.
