Free plant festival tickets and Croydon-inspired comedyOver 30 stalls pop up at Chelsea Physic Garden.
London's animal magnetismSheer animal magnetism. London's got it by the zoo-load. A nightingale plays the lead role in one of the most famous songs about the capital. Formidable dragons guard the gates to the City. And London's got more felines than the Cat Lady off the Simpsons — including a stray ginger tomcat who now has his own statue. The capital's critters have caused their fair share of chaos. One lion sparked a stampede along Victoria Embankment, despite not being a real lion. Similarly one dog prompted riots, despite not being a real dog (spotting a pattern?). On another occasion, a pelican crash-landed through a War Office window. (This time, it was a real pelican.) From camel benches to swan pedalos to fence-bending foxes to golden grasshoppers — sometimes the city feels like one massive menagerie. And that's before we've even got to London Zoo, with its famous giraffe house and penguin pool. Perhaps the most iconic London animal of all, though? The humble pigeon. And even they come in all kinds of guises: menacing, behatted, life-saving, pooping. Spring has sprungOver 30 stalls pop up at the Chelsea Physic Garden Plant Festival on Saturday 3 May, celebrating spring through a colourful selection of houseplants, succulents and outdoor plants, alongside plant care tips and demos. Plus, you get free entry to the botanic garden (usually £15) with your free Plant Festival ticket — bargain! Croydon-inspired comedyA one-woman show that challenges south London stereotypes — through comedy, music, spoken word and cameos from Croydon’s most (in)famous icons — comes to Jacksons Lane for one night only on 20 May. You're SO F**KING Croydon! is an unfiltered celebration of womanhood, identity, and growing up apologetically, featuring noughties nostalgia and a euphoric dance finale. Big Fun Walk is backFancy exploring the capital on foot with your fellow Londoners, all while raising money for a fantastic cause? On 18 May, North London Hospice is giving you the chance to do exactly that. Sign up now to Big Fun Walk for a 10 mile (or 5 mile) challenge that takes in the likes of Hampstead Heath and Primrose Hill. We’ve got just the book to help you make the most of the sunshine this spring/summer. Green London by David Fathers is a new collection of walks which take in London’s most verdant spaces.
