The Chronicle of Philanthropy Free, Live Briefing
Dear John, Over the past few weeks, I have been struck by the number of nonprofit leaders Iâve interviewed who have been spending their pandemic quarantines expanding their organizations. Iâm delighted that I will have a chance to interview one of those leaders again on Wednesday at the âRoad to Recovery: Financial Health for Nonprofits â online briefing weâre holding at 2 p.m. Eastern.
Joining me will be Shawn Wilson, who heads the Boys and Girls Club of Southeastern Michigan. His organization last year announced an innovative alliance with a small business incubator. Heâll share with you the many steps he has taken to build the resiliency of his organization and how he is planning for the long-term continuation of virtual programming pioneered during Covid. And heâll help you learn how to think about whether to accept emergency-response funds that are now so abundant â but that might lead your organization into directions that arenât sustainable.
Adding to our conversation will be: Stan Little, who is chief experience officer at United Way Worldwide and former leader of the SunTrust Foundation. His career has been focused on helping organizations thrive. His expertise was put to the test when he took his new role at United Way just weeks before the Covid lockdowns transformed how the organizationâs headquarters and affiliates did their work. You can get a preview of some of his advice in an article he wrote for the Chronicle, 6 Keys to Making Your Nonprofit Financially Sustainable. Preeta Nayak, a partner at the Bridgespan Group who trains nonprofit leaders around the country and who has been working intensively with organizations responding to the challenges of the pandemic. She will help you understand how to think about your work force and the best ways you and your managers can help your staff stay motivated â and avoid the Great Resignation crisis that businesses, nonprofits, and others are experiencing. Iâm excited to give you direct access to these outstanding leaders and experts â and canât wait to hear the questions youâll pose to our guests. Sign up now so you can join us live Wednesday at 2 p.m. Eastern â or watch later at your convenience.
This is just one of many free opportunities the Chronicle offers you to learn. We have much more in store for you over the next few months so stay tuned for invitations to our online sessions that will help you advance your mission.
See you online.
