New AI tool makes angry customers sound calmer for call center staff

Working at a call center could soon be a bit less stressful thanks to AI

AI could soon make life easier for call center workers exhausted by the constant complaints of irate customers, Asahi News reported.

Japanese tech giant SoftBank is developing an “emotion-canceling” AI tool that cleverly converts angry voices into calm ones.

A SoftBank employee came up with the idea after watching a TV show about customer harassment. Ten actors were hired to help train the AI with more than 10,000 pieces of voice data, the report said, adding that the AI tool softens the pitch and inflection of a caller's voice while retaining the original wording ...

Circular just updated its smart ring to take on the Galaxy Ring

Circular unveils updated version of the Circular Ring Slim ahead of Samsung’s imminent launch of the Galaxy Ring

The new version of the Circular Ring Slim retains a very similar design, but there are numerous changes that attempt to tackle issues with the original device, Digital Trends reported.

Circular says, for example, that it’s improved the ring’s scratch-resistant coating, enhanced the device’s algorithms, and introduced two new “circles” in the app that track and analyze data.

The new Circular Ring Slim costs $281, but there’s still no word on the subscription fee expected for the app. It’s currently free to use and you see all your data, but features like the Medication Reminder will only be free for a limited time. Expect reviews of Circular's new smart ring to land soon ...

Updated Beats Pill speaker looks set to land in less than a week

Leaks suggest it will have much-improved sound quality, battery life

Another teaser from Beats strongly suggests that its revived Pill speaker will finally be unveiled this coming Tuesday, SoundGuys reported.

The portable Bluetooth speaker first launched in 2012, but was killed off a decade later, so we’re curious to see what Beats has done with this update. The original one had a stylish design and was much-loved, prompting Beats to push out a couple of variations during its 10-year run.

So, what will we get? A high-end device with a price tag to match? Or something simpler and more affordable? All will be revealed soon ...

Inside Out 2 set to win weekend box office again as The Bikeriders debuts

Despite mostly warm reviews, Jeff Nichols latest movie is unlikely to topple Inside Out 2

After taking in a whopping $155 million domestically and nearly $300 million globally on its opening weekend, Inside Out 2 is widely expected to win the box office again this weekend.

Theaters had been waiting for a movie to really kick-start the summer season, and the animated kids film from Pixar did just that.

Some of the competition for Inside Out 2 comes from the crime drama The Bikeriders starring Jodie Comer, Austin Butler, and Tom Hardy. It's directed by Jeff Nichols (Mud, Take Shelter). Bad Boys: Ride or Die is also expected to perform well on its third weekend in U.S. theaters ...

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree review: triumphant DLC feels like a sequel

Expansion launches on June 21 for multiple platforms, starts at $40

Digital Trends described Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree as “a massive achievement in both open-world and DLC design” that offers “a staggering amount of content to play with.” GameSpot praised its “thrilling sense of player-empowered exploration and rewarding discovery,” adding that “the story of Elden Ring now feels complete and its world whole.”

IGN’s reviewer said FromSoftware’s new offering was “certainly one of the best DLC expansions I’ve ever played.”

Eurogamer, however, only gave a 3.5/5 rating, and was unhappy with how it “abandons the core appeal of Elden Ring as a living text to be read and learned, and ambiently, lovingly communicated across realms through vague multiplayer messages” ...
