Gallery Game Guide (Free) and a Cool, New Reading Wand

Hi, John!

How was your weekend? We kicked our's off with my little one's birthday. Dinner and cupcakes with family, and then...Hamilton! Gasp. Have you seen it? My daughter loves to sing and wanted to see Hamilton more than anything, so months ago we secured our seats and spent Friday night at the theater! It was AMAZING and I've been humming Hamilton tunes all weekend long. Da-da-da-da-dahhhh! Following that top act, we've been lounging around the house (like seriously long morning, pajamas all day loung-ing!), while also getting things ready for our dorm residents who arrive in a couple weeks.

What's happening at TinkerLab today? Three fun things...

A few month's back I led a group of museum interns through a series of art games designed to help kids have fun with art in gallery spaces. I shared a peek at it on Instagram and heard that some of you wanted a closer look. The handouts were kind of rudimentary, so I took a little time to craft one of the experiences into a sweet little 6-page printable, just for you. Print it out and take it with you next time you visit an art gallery or even grandma's house. My friends Hanna and Anne-Louise, mamas with heart and brains, have been busy developing a language learning tool. Today happens to be their launch day and I'm happy to be one of the first to help them release the Habbi Habbi Reading Wand into the world. I'd love to get your advice!

Gallery Game Printable - free

Before my TinkerLab days I oversaw school programs at a contemporary art museum where I had the fun job of training docents, designing curriculum guides, and giving tours to kids of all ages. To make things more engaging for children, because let’s be real, kids can get antsy in galleries, we played around with a variety of fun strategies that help children think more creatively about art.

The goal of this game, "Which Artwork Is...?", is to help children make choices while developing their reasoning skills. You can try this with children ages 5 and up. The process is pretty simple and you get a front row seat into your child's or student’s mind, which is a pretty fascinating place to hang out.
