The Art of George Hill "YOU COULD SEE THEM standing in the amber current where the white edges of their fins wimpled softly in the flow. They smelled of moss in your hand. Polished and muscular and torsional. On their backs were vermiculate patterns that were maps of the world in its becoming." Those words are from the novel The Road by author Cormac McCarthy. They are also favorites of Allen Carter, inspired to remember them by artist George Hill, whom he interviewed earlier this year. If you haven't come across Hill's art yet, we encourage you to read the interview for insight into what makes this extraordinarily talented artist tick. "The Golden Retrieverish is based on a pattern called the Golden Retriever developed by Jim Finn for fishing on Mossy Creek in Virginia," notes Tim Flagler. "Over the years, it’s become a go-to pattern in many areas." Watch him tie this very effective pattern. |
