British Council and Unilab Education sign a MOU

On April 30, 2025, the British Council and Unilab Education, Inc. officially sealed a partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at the Unilab Office. The MOU outlines joint efforts to enhance English proficiency in education and healthcare, promote English language assessments, explore STEM initiatives, and identify more ways to work together through knowledge sharing and global linkages.

Ateneo de Naga faculty attend Assessment Literacy and CEFR session

British Council expert Andy Milner delivered a remote session to faculty members of Ateneo de Naga University on 29 April 2025. The attendees learned about language assessment and the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) for languages as they move toward improving the language skills of their students. British Council Account Manager Abby Boboyo also provided an orientation on Aptis, one of our assessment solutions that the faculty will be taking soon.

Free English Resources Launched by CHED

On 19 May 2025, CHED launched the funded OERs developed by Philippine HEIs. These are part of the deliverables of the working group for the National Roadmap for Global Competitiveness in Communication Skills (NRGCCS), in which the British Council is represented. The roadmap sets CEFR language levels for English for both teachers and students, initially in five degree programme areas.

Universities try IELTS, Aptis and Foundation English Test

Universities recently availed of the opportunity to try our English language tests to assess which ones will be suitable for their programmes as they push with their plans to internationalise and improve the employability of their students. University of Antique, Isabela State University and Bukidnon State University scheduled Aptis pretests in May. BukSU also availed of the Foundation English Test pretests for their students. University of Saint Louis in Tuguegarao students took part in the IELTS on Paper Trial Tests. PH rep compete at international public speaking contest London

Carmela Berania from the University of Batangas proudly represented the Philippines in the recent English Speaking Union International Public Speaking Competition in London. In March, she bested almost 40 delegates from around the Philippines in the national search conducted at the College of Saint Benilde. Carmela was joined by her coaches and Mr David Reynolds, President of English Speaking Union Philippines. The national search for the 2026 competition will begin in November 2025.
