Not long now until the green light for 2023 Formula 1 testing, in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it three days from Thursday to Saturday in Bahrain. Gone are the multiple tests at Barcelona, instead we get compressed running at Sakhir – the venue for the first race of the season on March 5. Teams are only allowed to run one car in the sessions, that will run from 10am-7:30pm local time each day, so F1’s drivers will have to play nice and share with their team-mates. As ever, don’t take the headline lap times as gospel: Teams very much run to an agenda, and even a small difference in fuel load or tyre compound has a huge impact on raw pace. But one thing they can’t hide is poor reliability, and any loss of track time can have a huge impact in how they start the season.
