Hello again, everyone. Hope Santa was good to you and yours. Since everyone is digging out from snow across the country and/or the Christmas present wrapping paper, we thought we'd stick with a little light reading for this edition of our LSU newsletter. Truth to tell, the news is a little slow right after Christmas, but the momentum will pick up the closer we get to LSU's Jan. 2 Citrus Bowl apperance against Purdue. Kickoff is set for noon CST in Orlando on ABC. We're going to start your bowl week out with a little primer on Purdue, some hopefully little known facts about the school in West Lafayette, Indiana, that LSU meets in football for the first time. Yes, I'm sure everyone knows Drew Brees played for the Boilermakers, and is coaching them in the Citrus Bowl. But we've got lots of stuff on traditions, history and other famous Purdue alumni (Spoiler alert: the school is known as the Cradle of Astronauts). Meanwhile, LSU's basketball teams are set to open SEC play with a pair of games against ranked Arkansas teams. The LSU men host No. 9 Arkansas at 8 p.m. Wednesday, while the No. 9-ranked LSU women travel to face No. 24 Arkansas in Fayetteville at 6 p.m. Both games will be shown on ESPN2. The LSU women's team moved up one spot in this week's AP poll to get to No. 9, matching their highest ranking since th end of last season. Well, that's all for today folks. Sweep up all that Christmas paper and clear the decks for the rest of bowl season and New Year's, and we'll keep supplying you the LSU content right here every day. Thanks for subscribing, and we'll see you tomorrow. Scott Rabalais |
