Giles Penny at ABtS

We are thrilled to have work by Giles Penny new to the gallery here at Atelier Beside the Sea.

His sculptures focus on the expression of the human form, which he captures beautifully whether working on a miniature or monumental scale.

His pieces often convey an innocent, humorous quality, such as in Flower Man - this charming copper-plated, steel and Jesmonite sculpture (26cm high) - which is on display at the gallery. Come and enjoy the whole collection.

Annabet Wyndham

We've recently received some new pieces from the studio of Brighton-based jeweller Annabet Wyndham, and they are a delight.

Created with partly enamelled silver elements, and strung with glass and semi-precious beads, these pieces of Annabet's reminds us of the sky reflecting on the surface of the sea.

We've got a selection of her gorgeous earrings too.

Boro on the beach

Hiroko & Nigel Aono-Billson will be teaching their Boro Masterclass here in our classroom by the beach on Sunday the 16th June. Come and learn the Japanese art of patching and mending clothes and textiles using fragments or oddments of cloth.

Be inspired by some of the extraordinary vintage pieces in Hiroko & Nigel's own collection, then apply the Sashiko stitching and patching techniques you've learned to create your own unique piece.

Also for those who are nifty with a needle, Argentinian textile artist Adriana Torres teaches the fascinating technique of Needle Lace with Knots here at ABtS on 11th June.

The last hurrah of the Riso Show

It's your last chance to catch the brilliant Riso Show before it comes down next Sunday 19th May.

We have so enjoyed being surrounded by this riot of colour and learning about this cult printing technique from its avid fans and followers. But it must come down to make way for our next show, so come and enjoy one last hurrah.

Coming next is a show that takes its inspiration from people who love paper and all its possibilities. Rob Ryan and his extraordinary paper cuts feature, alongside a host of other paper-based creatives. Watch this space.

This Saturday you'll meet Aline Johnson, D K Adam Mosaics, Hannah Parkes, Odeda Jewellery, Clare Pentlow, Twisting Metal, Solace in Wood, Renush, Romor Designs, Studio Cuckoo, Tamasyn Gambell, Thea Wates Design, Wholecloth Studio, Yellow Minnow Sketch, Joely Clinkard, Linescapes, Ooo Shiny Things, Mindful Manta, China Girl UK and Valeria Muffato ceramics.

Their work is shown alongside our resident artists, meaning there is work by close to 100 makers to explore.
