Dear Friend, How many Litquakes have you attended since our inaugural shindig back in 1999? One? Two? A cool two dozen? I hope you know how lucky you are, because my head and heart are full to the brim just from this year’s festival—which, believe it or not, was my first. Your tax-deductible donation can help sustain our many programs and ensure that Litquake remains an essential part of San Francisco’s literary landscape. Give in the spirit of what drew you to Litquake the first time—and for the countless stories that keep you coming back. |

My first Litquake kicked off with Kidquake, when we greeted thousands of young readers from schools all over the Bay. They had that tell-tale field-trip buzz, their faces alight with the promise of great stories (and free books). Fast forward to the festival’s final night, when I saw dozens of Mission Lit Crawl stages play host to a stunning range of literary voices from the heartbreaking to the hilarious, from the sublime to the downright silly. During the two weeks in between, I watched time and again as bookish moments that started on stage sparked lingering conversations among friends and strangers. So, memories? Any Litquake 2023 attendee has them to spare, and likely a stack of new books to match. But now is also a time to start looking ahead—and I’m overflowing with ideas for what we can achieve together. Let’s expand the reach of our programs for young readers and elder writers, invest in local BIPOC literary writers and presses, and—this is a big one—celebrate next year’s twenty-fifth festival in true Litquake style. Yours, |

P.S. As passionate as I am about building this community, as creative and hard-working as our staff and volunteers are, as many readers and writers whose lives our programs have already touched—we can’t do it alone. |
