🌏 RACE TO ADOPTION

If Russia Invites Bitcoin Adoption, The Global Arms Race Will Begin
By Mike Hobart

Russia's attitude towards Bitcoin is increasingly dynamic. For example, the Russian Ministry of Economic Development is reportedly considering advantageous energy tariffs for bitcoin (and other cryptocurrency) miners because, as stated, the mining industry incentivizes great increases in energy generation, while allowing for rapid pivoting of demand by the grid.

By incentivizing the mining industry, Russia is signaling its support for this new asset class and technology, probably because they recognize its potential as a decentralized monetary system that can eliminate international trading sanctions and allow free trade with anyone.

Russia could be challenging the U.S. and other western countries by pushing them into inflationary environments to weaken their fiat system while supporting a new decentralized economic standard. How the  countries might react is to be seen.

🤬 CENSORSHIP ATTACK

Canadian Federal Police Blacklists Trucker’s Bitcoin Addresses
By Namcios

The Canadian Freedom Convoy is once again under the spotlight of the Canadian government, who is trying by all means to stop the funding of the movement. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has successfully stopped donations made via centralized services such as GoFundMe and GiveSendGo and they are now trying their best to block donations made with bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency.

RCMP issued an order to all Canadian FINTRAC regulated companies — cryptocurrency exchanges included — demanding them to cease transacting with bitcoin addresses allegedly associated with the Freedom Convoy’s fundraising efforts. They are also demanding information about any movements to or from these addresses. This action doesn’t prevent peer-to-peer bitcoin transactions but it makes it impossible to use exchanges to convert bitcoin into fiat currency. It is unclear whether the restrictions apply only to the addresses specified and how far their efforts and chain analysis would go.

💰 BITCOIN FOR TAXES

Colorado To Accept Bitcoin For State Taxes
By Namcios

Colorado will soon start accepting bitcoin as payment for taxes, according to an interview of Governor Jared Polis with CNBC. The plan would enable bitcoin and cryptocurrency payments for other state-related fees in the months following the tax roll out, making it possible soon enough for residents to pay even for their driver's license with bitcoin.

Even though the government would be converting it back to dollars at the moment of payment, this has still two good functions:

  • Exposes people to the asset and technology, allowing them to later consider holding some on their balance sheet.
  • Incentives other citizens to trust it as they could use it as means of payment too.

“We expect to accept crypto by this summer ... we are a very forward-looking, innovative state”  —Governor Jared Polis

MEME OF THE DAY

By Sheddy

Reading between the lines allows us to identify the signal and distinguish it from the noise. At this point in time we are in a race of Bitcoin adoption. The more Bitcoin becomes adopted and normalized, the more it undermines the status of the dollar as reserve currency of the world. Honestly, I think it should undermine fiat — it has superior properties.

With love,
Bam
