Glutenfreeda is pleased to announce to our retailers and consumers that all of the products currently produced by Glutenfreeda Foods, Inc. are non-GMO in compliance with Vermont’s new GMO Labeling Law. This includes Glutenfreeda Instant Oatmeal, Granola, Whole Oats, Instant Oatmeal Cups, Burritos, Pizza Wraps, Pocket Sandwiches and Flatbreads. Known as “The Vermont Right to Know Bill” (Act H.112) Vermont is currently the first and only state in the nation that has passed legislation into law which requires that manufacturers label retail food products that contain, or possibly contain, Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs.) GMO foods contain ingredients that have been altered from their natural state through the introduction of genetic material (DNA.) These crops are often created so that the plants produce their own toxins to ward off pests or to be able to withstand large doses of weed-killing herbicides. While sixty nations around the world, as well as the European Union, require the labeling of GMO foods, U.S. Federal Law does not require that GMO foods are labeled nor does the FDA conduct independent safety tests before GMO products are sold to consumers. Vermont legislation requiring food manufacturers to label products containing GMOs is scheduled to go into effect on July 1st, 2016.
