Glutenfreeda newsletter

There’s always been a bit of a question as to whether May or October is the official Celiac Awareness Month. Personally, I believe we should embrace both months since it gives us an additional opportunity to educate ourselves as well as family and friends!

GlutenfreedaAccording to a Gallop poll released last year, even more Americans are now actively trying to eat gluten-free foods: One in five! Even though that’s a significant number, the majority (58%) of those polled said they don’t even think about it. Even if those folks aren’t suffering the ill effects of consuming gluten, it’s still important to educate them about celiac disease and gluten sensitivity because they’re also the family members, friends, neighbors and could possibly be the food professionals in our communities who serve those who must adhere to a gluten-free lifestyle. Without proper knowledge they may think that gluten-free living is just a fad or craze and not take it seriously, which puts the health of those who must eat gluten-free at risk.

Please encourage the local food market where you shop for Glutenfreeda products to celebrate Celiac Awareness this month! And if you have the opportunity, share your personal story with someone about why you eat gluten-free. You never know, that conversation may change a life for the better...or perhaps even save one.

What's Cookin'

It’s a dark and stormy night and everyone else in the family has gone to bed. The house is eerily quiet. And then a sound….a deep growl growing louder and louder, rumbling and groaning. Could Frankenstein’s Monster be on the loose? Or is it the echo of the heavy hooves of the Headless Horseman’s steed? Perhaps it’s a Werewolf at the window? Worse....it’s a late night snack attack! There’s a chance your customers could end up eating something scary. There’s a chance you could end up eating something scary. Gluten-free Recipe

Little ghosts and goblins will gobble-up these sweet treats made with Glutenfreeda Granola!

Ingredients:

  • 12 oz. bag of Glutenfreeda Granola (we used Cranberry Cashew)
  • 2 cups of gluten-free crisp rice cereal
  • 7 oz. bag of gluten-free mini marshmallows
  • 3 Tbsp. butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • Lollipop sticks
  • Gluten-Free Chocolate (white, dark or both) for dipping
  • Sugar and natural food coloring for decorating
Recipe

Directions:

In a large pot melt butter over low heat and add marshmallows. Cook, stirring constantly for about 5 minutes until smooth. Add vanilla.

Add bag of Glutenfreeda Granola and 2 cups of rice cereal to mixture and stir well. Remove from heat.

With a lollipop stick in one hand and a couple tablespoons of granola mixture in another (it helps to wear gloves or a plastic bread bag since the mixture is sticky) mold into balls, making sure that the stick is as close to the center as possible and press gently so that the bottom is flat so that the pops can stand up.) Place each pop on a baking sheet covered in wax or parchment paper. Let them sit until firm.

Dip into melted chocolate and decorate. Place on sheet again to cool.

When chocolate has set, you can wrap them up and decorate with ribbons!
