Moments after they were taken into custody, they claimed they were roughed up by off-duty Bexar County sheriff deputies, and home surveillance footage obtained by the Defenders appears to back up some of their story. Now, their mothers want the deputies to face serious consequences for their alleged actions. 'She was a sweet lady’: Neighbors remember elderly woman after she is fatally beaten in Balcones Heights apartment Neighbors are left devastated after a 76-year-old woman was found beaten to death at the Spanish Keys Apartments in the 1150 block of Babcock Road. Balcones Heights Police said they received a call from the victim after an argument with her son, Michael Wayne Curbow, 55. Police are now searching for Curbow after they arrived to the apartment and found his mother dead. ‘While You Were Sleeping’: Dealing with other people’s dirty laundry is all in a night’s work for dry cleaning staff At 2 a.m., Kirsten Thomas already is up to her elbows in the makings of a super-sized laundry day. Before the sun came up, she already had loaded up several extra-large washing machines with piles of other people’s clothing. “It just comes natural, I guess,” she said, referring to her ability to work the unusual schedule. “But I take a nap in the afternoons.” Inside a building on the city’s North Side, she washes and dries dozens of loads of laundry during the overnight hours. What’s Trending Wine and cheese festival is coming to Fredericksburg There is a two-day wine and cheese festival coming to Fredericksburg and it sounds amazing. It’s family-friendly and tickets will be limited to 500 people to help “keep [a] good experience for our guests," a festival spokesperson said. There will be local cheeses, wines, specialty beer, craft cocktails, live music and activities for kids like inflatables, face painting, games and contests. World Renown pianist performing in SA for Gurwitz 2020 International Piano Competition This week, you can see world renown pianists performing in free or very affordable concerts right here in San Antonio at the Gurwitz 2020 International Piano competition. The non-profit, Musical Bridges Around the World, is hosting the competition, with 12 contestants from six different countries. DeRozan’s season-high 38 points helps Spurs top Jazz Two days after missing a critical free throw, DeMar DeRozan stepped to the line and put the game away for the San Antonio Spurs. DeRozan scored a season-high 38 points and San Antonio held on for a 127-120 victory over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday night, snapping a three-game losing streak.
