Good morning from the GMSA anchor desk for another big back to school day! We hope those of you with families headed back to class had a good last weekend of summer vacation. I was in Port Aransas this weekend getting in some beach time. I can’t remember the last time I saw the water so clear down there! I focused on catching rays versus fish this time. Leslie is back from a whirlwind weekend dropping her daughter off at UTLA for her senior year. Leslie said she’s both excited for her and emotional knowing her Longhorn now calls Los Angeles home...at least for an academic year. Join us including Meteorologist Sarah Spivey! Former NFL player Cedric Benson dies in motorcycle crash Famed running back Cedric Benson, who racked up awards in his collegiate and NFL careers, died Saturday night. He was 36 years old. Austin police said a minivan was trying to cross an intersection when it ran into a motorcycle, CNN affiliate KXAN reported. Both Benson and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene. Today's Headlines These San Antonio area schools received F's in TEA accountability ratings More than 60 schools in the San Antonio area received an overall letter grade of F in the latest Texas Education Agency accountability ratings. The TEA, which oversees Texas public schools and public charter schools, grades campuses and districts based on student achievement, school progress and how well each school "closes the gaps." The schools are graded on an A-F scale, with A being exemplary performance, C acceptable performance and F unacceptable performance. Fundraiser held for family killed in triple murder-suicide Communities from across the region packed the South Side Expo and Pavilion on Sunday to help raise money for a family that lost relatives in a triple murder-suicide earlier this month. The event came less than two weeks after Ruben H. Gonzalez, 28, shot his uncle, Jose Guadalupe-Hurtado; his mother, Josephina Gonzalez; and grandmother, Felicitas Guillen-Hurtado; at a home in the 7500 block of Dream Valley Street before turning the gun on himself, police said. Possible child custody issue results in gunfire, police say One person was injured Sunday night after an argument at a car dealership off of Bandera Road ended in gunfire. Police said people in four or five cars were involved in the argument, which authorities believe may have been over child custody.
