Cole, a homeless man who likely couldn’t pay $40 to a bail bondsman to be released from jail, died days after being arrested for criminal trespassing on private property. Authorities said Cole suffered from an underlying medical condition and chronic drug use. The exact cause of his death has not been determined. Affidavit: Suspect who fled scene of South Side shooting swallowed heroin before police chase A man who led San Antonio police on a chase from the scene of a South Side shooting in December told investigators he ingested heroin after he was apprehended. Due to the claim, police first released Francisco Javier Gonzales to paramedics after the car chase on Dec. 18 that began near Canavan Avenue. On Saturday, Gonzales was formally charged with evading arrest and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. San Antonio River Walk to be drained for maintenance A portion of the main channel of the San Antonio River Walk is set to be drained Monday through Thursday (January 6-9) for regular maintenance. The water will be drained from Josephine Street to South Alamo Street, which hasn’t been drained since 2016, according to the River Walk website. Restaurants and hotels will all be open and operate the same hours, despite the draining. Maintenance of the River Walk is “critical” to upkeep and allows crews to inspect walls that are usually submerged. What’s Trending Oreo has two new flavors for the new year: Caramel Coconut and Chocolate Marshmallow O-R-E-Oh wow. The classic chocolate sandwich cookie is out with two new flavors to kick off the new year, and they look scrumptious. Caramel Coconut Oreos and Chocolate Marshmallow Oreos were announced in November but are now being made available at US retailers. The new Chocolate Marshmallow Oreos have marshmallow pieces in the cookie and chocolate marshmallow creme in the filling. Instead, a pair of big-screen epics took top honors Sunday, as Sam Mendes’ technically dazzling World War I tale “1917” won best picture, drama, and Quentin Tarantino’s radiant Los Angeles fable “Once Upon a Time ... in Hollywood” won best film, comedy or musical. Jason Garrett, Dallas Cowboys ‘parted ways’ Jason Garrett is no longer the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, owner Jerry Jones confirmed in an official statement on Sunday. Garrett’s contract was set to expire on Jan. 14. Last February, he was not offered an extension, according to ESPN. The 2019 season was the fourth time Dallas finished .500 under Garrett, whose career record is 87-70, including a 2-3 playoff mark.
