March job openings: +597K Job openings rose 597,000 in March to 8.1 million, the highest figure since records began in 2000, according to the Labor Department. The apparent mismatch between the high number of job openings and the high level of unemployment might prompt the Biden administration to reappraise unemployment benefits, some of which pay more than available jobs. GOP states move to block unemployment supplement At least nine Republican-controlled states are calling for an imminent end to the $300 weekly unemployment supplement authorized by the Biden administration, and have asked the Labor Department for exemption from some of its other assistance programs. Revived entrepreneur rule could create 400K jobs Now that the Biden administration has revived the International Entrepreneur Rule, startup founders taking advantage of it could create as many as 429,714 new jobs for Americans over the next decade, according to a report from the New American Economy, a bipartisan research and advocacy organization.
