with Jennifer Wadsworth | Assistant metro editor

Welcome back. Let's take a look at some of our latest headlines.

No charges against deputy, homeowner

Citing a lack of evidence, a grand jury declined to charge a homeowner and a Tangipahoa Sheriff's deputy in a double-shooting last fall that left a suspected burglar dead.

The decision upset the burglar's mother, who told us she's beside herself.

"It makes me feel like they're trying to cover something up,” she said.

Reporters Paul Cobler and James Finn have the story.

Mandatory kindergarten

The governor signed a bill into law that makes kindergarten a requirement in Louisiana.

Here's what we know about the new mandate, which proponents say will help improve classroom performance by giving kids a head start academically.

'The NCAA is not above the law'

So says the final sentence of a Supreme Court decision expected to change the future of how college athletes are paid. Here's our story about Monday's NCAA v. Alston ruling and what it means for college sports.

A taste of Tokyo

Patrick Wong, who studied in Tokyo, has brought his ramen-making skills to his new restaurant, Boru Ramen, in Electric Depot on Government Street. And, believe us, this ramen is nothing like those packs of crinkly noodles you ate in college. Read all about it here.

Gourmet cookies

Crumbl Cookies comes to town with its grand opening Thursday through Saturday on Siegen Lane, next to Mooyah's. You can watch them bake all that goodness right in the store.

Thanks for reading, and have a great day!
