Your Friday evening update from the Lancashire Post
View email online | | | | | Oct 8, 2021 | | | | | | Good evening, There is no doubt that losing the chance to become a ‘city’ of culture is a massive blow for Lancashire. Plenty of hard work went into the bid which could have brought a cultural revolution to parts of the county in the years to come. However, it was not to be and the county’s attempt was derailed at the first hurdle. To some, this will not be a surprise, given that Lancashire County Council withdrew its financial support for the bid at the last moment. Despite a valiant effort to turn it around, that decision made it look as though the bid did not have the backing of the people of the county. Sadly, this is not the first time Lancashire has missed out on opportunities because of fractured relationships and an inability to put the greater good at the heart of decision-making. Those areas with local mayors are beginning to thrive as Government cash comes their way...while we wait at the back of the queue with a begging bowl. Time for a leadership with the vision to see further than the next 12 months - and one which leaves a lasting legacy. Until next time, take care, Gillian Contact me at gillian.parkinson@jpimedia.co.uk | |
