Australian BWM requirements according to Biosecurity Act 2015

On 16 June 2016 a new Biosecurity Act entered into force in Australia, replacing the Quarantine Act of 1908. The main legislative change, in relation to the operation of vessels, is alignment of Australian ballast water management requirements with those in the IMO’s BWM Convention.

Damen’s BWTS first used at Groningen Seaports

The first production version of Damen’s InvaSave ballast water treatment system – intended for use at Groningen Seaports – will be on display at the upcoming ‘DelfSail’ sailing festival between 30 June and 3 July in the city of Delfzijl.

Royal Caribbean to build new cruise terminal at Port Miami

Royal Caribbean Cruises announced an agreement with Miami-Dade County to construct and operate a dramatic new cruise terminal at PortMiami, on land leased from the County, serving as homeport to Royal Caribbean International ships, including a 5,400-passenger Oasis-class ship.

WSS supports World Food Programme

WSS has provided essential Maritime Logistics support to the World Food Programme, handling 4000 metric tonnes of date shipments from its base in Dammam, Saudi Arabia. The dates will supplement the diets of vulnerable people in countries across Africa and the Middle East.

Bureau Veritas – VeriFuel, announced that they will officially join the Green Award program as an incentive provider at a commencement ceremony to be held at their laboratory in Athens, Greece, on Friday (1st July).

Finnlines gets EU fund for technology retrofit program

The European Investment Bank has signed a EUR 50 million loan agreement with Finnish ferry operator Finnlines regarding its Environmental Technology Investment programme which aims to reduce SOx emissions and the company's overall environmental footprint.

California extends deadlines for At-Berth Regulation

The California Air Resources Board has issued a notice to provide information about the extension of the submission deadline for the At-Berth Regulation. The submittal of the vessel and terminal plans for the upcoming 70 percent reduction requirement is now due to ARB on October 1, 2016.

ClassNK amends Rules and Guidance

ClassNK has amended its Rules and Guidance for the Survey and Construction of Steel Ships in response to the latest industry developments, including amendments made to the International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk (IGC Code).
