Mask off: Man escapes jail thanks to COVID-19 switcheroo Authorities have caught a man who managed to escape from jail by taking advantage of these unusual times. As an inmate at Cook County Jail, Jahquez Scott made a special arrangement with another inmate who was scheduled to be released. By wearing a medical mask and trading clothes with his co-conspirator, Scott was able to walk right through the jailhouse doors as soon as the other inmate’s name was called. Unfortunately for him, the sheriff's department caught on to the ruse and both inmates are now back in jail with additional charges and fines on their record. The worst part: Scott had promised to pay the other inmate only $500 for the privilege of using his clothes and identity. Compared to the charges of aiding and abetting a felon, that’s chump change! If only they had planned ahead like the Alcatraz escapees. Tap or click here to see Buzzfeed Unsolved’s deep dive into the Alcatraz Prison break. → |
