Watch the event recap video here. View the full event photo gallery here. This week, I was proud to host the 13th Annual South Carolina Prayer Breakfast. The standing room only event highlighted the vibrant religious diversity and flourishing faith that roots the Palmetto State. As always, the prayer breakfast was an opportunity for us to truly celebrate faith and South Carolina, a risen Savior and the joy of living in a country where that’s possible. Winning For American Taxpayers This month, I joined my Senate colleagues in a letter to the IRS, requesting information regarding its practice of unannounced, threatening visits to the homes of South Carolinians and taxpayers around the country. This week, our efforts to protect taxpayers paid off when the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced it would end the practice of unannounced visits to taxpayers’ homes. I’m proud to have successfully fought to provide meaningful protections for Americans and make strides in ending the IRS’ harassment of hard-working people. Read more about our letter here. Protecting Our Schools From Communist China Every year, undisclosed sources within the People’s Republic of China send millions of dollars to U.S. colleges and universities. Unfortunately, we still don’t have the full picture on the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) attempts to influence our higher education system. I introduced an amendment to the FY24 NDAA to that will help address the Chinese military’s influence on U.S. higher education. I was pleased my Senate colleagues voted unanimously to include my amendment in our national security bill. I will never apologize for standing up to the CCP and protecting the integrity of America’s education system. Read more about my amendment here. Calling Out the Biden Administration President Biden’s nominee to serve as Labor Secretary, Julie Su, has spent nearly five months in limbo as the Biden administration has failed to garner the necessary support within the Democrat-controlled Senate to secure her confirmation. Now, the Biden administration is attempting to circumvent the Senate confirmation process by indefinitely installing Julie Su to serve as acting Labor Secretary. I led a letter to President Biden, calling out his attempt to bypass the Senate, and urging him to immediately withdraw Su’s nomination and work with the Senate to nominate a suitable candidate for the role.
