Plus: What changed my mind about breast implants
| | Broadway hit opens in Sydney |
|
Even if you're completely removed from the world of musical theatre, you're likely to be at least dimly aware of Hamilton. The blockbuster US musical opened in Sydney this week. It has an Australian cast, but is otherwise largely identical to the Broadway version (with the exception of three little words). I must admit to being largely ignorant when it comes to musicals, which is why I was grateful for this article from The Stage Show explaining the Hamilton phenomenon. The article mounts an argument for why I, as a non-American, should even care about a musical telling the story of a little-known figure from US history. And with West End and Broadway theatres still closed, it reminds us what an achievement it is that we're able to go to the theatre at all. Have a great week, Simon Leo Brown, digital producer Enjoy getting Radio National in your inbox? Forward to a friend so they can too! |
