Hello, boys and girls. But fear not, because we've got plenty of headlines to peruse. |
This is the Pick Six Newsletter. Now let's get to it. (And please, do yourself a favor and make sure you're signed up to receive this newsletter every day! You don't want to miss our daily offerings of everything you need to know around the NFL.) |
We've got midseason awards, Odell Beckham Jr. updates, QB power rankings and more: |
Today's show: Midseason awards, from MVP to Coach of the Year |
|
Brady Quinn joined Will Brinson on Wednesday's "Pick Six NFL Podcast" to hand out some midseason awards and update 2021 NFL predictions. You'll wanna check out the entire episode for their breakdowns, but here are some of their thoughts on major awards: |
MVP: Brady likes Kyler Murray right now but thinks Tom Brady and Lamar Jackson could easily claim the award by season's end. Coach of the Year: Will thinks Mike Vrabel or Kliff Kingsbury are clear-cut favorites with Tennessee and Arizona rolling.Offensive Rookie of the Year: Brady thinks Mac Jones will overtake Ja'Marr Chase (!) by the end of the season. |

2. Prisco's Picks: Patriots down Browns, Rodgers beats Russ |
Pete Prisco, now 82-54 picking games straight up this year, is back with predictions for every single Week 10 matchup. Here are some of his most notable forecasts: |
Patriots 27, Browns 21: The Browns are playing back-to-back road games and put a lot into winning a big division game last week at Cincinnati. The Patriots are back home for the first time in three weeks after winning two road games. Mac Jones will do enough.Packers 31, Seahawks 24: Russell Wilson is back for the Seahawks and Aaron Rodgers should be. That will make this a fun offensive game to watch. The Packers defense, though, is getting better by the week.Chiefs 34, Raiders 33: These two teams both need this in the worst way. This might be the game that Patrick Mahomes finally gets back on track. It should be a fun, high-scoring game if that happens. I think it does. Mahomes wins a shootout. |
3. Insider notes: Kyle Shanahan should be on the hot seat |
|
Jason La Canfora isn't buying the notion the 49ers are just beset by injuries again. He sees San Francisco's underwhelming performance in the NFC West as the continuation of a concerning pattern. Specifically, he sees the coach as a problem: |
"The run game is a shell of what it used to be. The pop-gun offense isn't scaring anyone. All of their elaborate smokescreens and spy-novel levels of offseason intrigue about which quarterback they were mortgaging their future to move up and draft seems a little too cute, especially since Trey Lance has barely played for the sputtering outfit. And what seems to be resonating most loudly in the Bay Area right now is Shanahan's 32-44 career record (.444) and the fact he is 9-15 since the 49ers blew their lead to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl. |
"Ultimately, you are what your record says you are. And that ain't good. And no amount of play-calling wizardry can change that overnight. This ain't a post-Super Bowl hangover. This isn't a blip. That's a nearly 25-game sample size since the big collapse against KC, and, well, the 24 games preceding that glorious 2019 season weren't special, either (10-14)." |

4. Odell Beckham Jr. latest: Chiefs, Packers, Saints among finalists |
The former Giants and Browns wide receiver officially cleared waivers Tuesday, making him a free agent for the first time in his career. Now? He's zeroing in on three teams: the Chiefs, Packers and Saints, per ESPN's Dianna Russini. The Patriots and Seahawks have also reached out to Beckham's camp about a potential deal, per various reports, but it's unclear whether they're on Beckham's wish list. Multiple reports have indicated the former Pro Bowler prefers to sign with a contender after his polarizing departure from Cleveland. |
5. QB Power Rankings: Justin Herbert approaches top five |
