| Good evening, Over the last 30 years, those of us who love football have seen the game we knew as children change beyond all recognition. As money has been pumped in from sponsorship, TV deals and owners with big pockets, the role of the fans has been relegated to a bit-part. Yes, the facilities at grounds have improved, but that apart, little note has been taken of the views of the people who pay to watch either in stadiums or at home. Lockdown meant that football disappeared overnight, just when the league and cup competitions were starting to get interesting. Some of them have not returned, with relegation and promotion being decided in boardrooms rather than on the pitch. But the Premier League and Championship have returned, albeit behind closed doors and the past week has shown us just how important fans really are to the game and the kind of power they could hold. Without the atmosphere they create, it simply isn’t the same and the canned variety we are being offered is even worse. Let’s not forget that when stadiums re-open.
