Strong local journalism = a strong democracy. Donate today. Dear Friend, I want to talk to you about New Jersey. New Jersey is sandwiched between two massive media markets: New York to the north and Philadelphia to the south. Which means residents get a lot of news about what’s happening in the suburbs of Long Island and in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, but very little information around what’s actually happening in their own neighborhoods. That’s a problem. Without this tie to timely local news, the people of New Jersey aren’t getting the news and information they need. We spent the last few years working across the state to brainstorm with community members about how to solve this problem and build something better. This work led to the creation of the New Jersey Civic Info Consortium — an initiative that will fund reliable local journalism, promising media startups and other efforts meant to better inform people. Our work is going to ensure that people in New Jersey have access to the local news and information that they need and it’s already serving as a national model of how to transform local journalism. Would you make a tax-deductible donation today to support our work promoting and protecting quality local news in more communities across the country? This is just one of MANY examples of the work Free Press is doing to protect the right to trustworthy news and information. And this wouldn’t be possible without you. In this, the season of giving, please consider supporting Free Press today and support your local news! Thanks! James and the rest of the Free Press team freepress.net |
