Today is #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of giving and unity in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is the perfect time to recognize the vital role nurses play in our lives as we also celebrate the beginning of National Nurses Month.
Now more than ever, nurses at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center are working to keep vulnerable cancer patients safe, especially from the threat of COVID-19.
“Cancer is the worst thing that has ever happened to many of my patients. So I try to keep that in mind as I care for them and imagine myself in their situation,” says Barbara Holley, a post-anesthesia nurse here at MD Anderson. “Mostly, I try to treat them the way I’d want to be treated.”
Nurses are the heart of MD Anderson — providing life-changing care and comfort to our patients, from diagnosis through treatment. Their endless compassion, dedication and expertise make a world of difference every step of the way.
Next time you see a nurse, be sure to smile and say, “Thank you for all you do.”
