Transatlantic Business Works Summit: Driving competitiveness in a changing world

On 23 April, BusinessEurope and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce hosted the Transatlantic Business Works Summit at the Chamber's historic headquarters in Washington, D.C.
Entitled "Driving competitiveness in a changing world", the Summit fostered discussions on broadening the $8.7 trillion commercial relationship between Europe and the United States. Keynote speakers included U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo, Former Prime Minister of Italy Enrico Letta, U.S. Principal Deputy National Security Adviser Jonathan Finer and many high-level representatives from companies active on both sides of the Atlantic. The conversations focused on the key issues for the business community, including how to strengthen Transatlantic competitiveness and further reduce the costs of doing business across the Atlantic, the need to ensure that regulations are not undermining economic growth and they support companies
in their efforts to adjust to the digital and green transformations. Geopolitical risks also featured prominently in the debate including the importance of a strong Transatlantic support to Ukraine. Director General Markus J. Beyrer emphasised that "in a world of rapid change and uncertainty, we need to be clear about the economic and geopolitical importance of the Transatlantic relationship. We must stress to policymakers that, in order to maintain and strengthen this vital partnership, they must focus on reducing costs of doing business across the Atlantic, address trade irritants, find joint responses to market distortions and overcapacity, and improve coordination on economic security."
