BY DOUG GRAHAM | Staff writer The Baton Rouge Youth Coalition helps hundreds of teenagers each year improve their chances of getting into a good college. Now, the nonprofit group is working to expand its service in southeast Baton Rouge, as renovations are complete at its Airline Highway center. BRYC also has extended its outreach to five Baton Rouge high schools, and eventually hopes to double the number of students it serves. Read more about the group's work. St. George leaders are criticizing social media posts urging residents to vote no on a Dec. 7 tax transfer vote, calling them "disinformation." While the appointed leaders of the new city say approval of the ballot measure to shift the 2% sales tax to city coffers would not add to residents' taxes, a post has circulated on social media urging defeat of the issue, calling it "taxation without representation."
