Over the past decade or so, Louisiana and Mississippi have become the center of the college baseball universe, with huge crowds and national title contenders. This season, Southern Miss is the only program in the two states hosting a regional. Here’s what LSU fans can expect if they’re headed to Hattiesburg, straight from our own Patrick Magee, former longtime USM beat writer. Elsewhere: • The SEC spring meeting has only just begun, but we got our money’s worth from Scott Rabalais already. The league’s football coaches gathered in the same room — which meant that Jimbo and Nick were in the same room. “They weren’t wrestling in there, I can tell you that,” Brian Kelly said, dashing all our hopes in one simple comment. • Brian Kelly himself sound off on a number of topics, including (but not limited to) name, image and likeness rules: He affirmed his support, but he wants it to exist in the spirit that was intended. Read here about Kelly’s thoughts on SEC playoff talk, the end of divisions and more. Also: • Dr. Catherine O’Neal, chief medical officer at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, has been named chief medical adviser to the SEC. We’ll obviously have much more on the Hattiesburg regional as the weekend nears, so stick with us, thank you for reading, and let’s welcome summer. |
