High Associates Ltd. Leases SACA Space to State’s First Black-Owned Winery
The Spanish American Civic Association (SACA) leased 1,925 SF of retail space located at 910 S Duke Street in Lancaster to A Concrete Rose Book Bar - the state’s first Black-owned winery. Associate Broker Jeff Kurtz, CCIM, of High Associates Ltd. represented the landlord in the transaction.
“We had our eye on this location in the Southeast since we decided we would come back to Lancaster to build this business,” shared Evita Colon, a native of Southeast. The retail space is located in SACA’s Plaza Centro Commercial Center. Colon and her partner, Solise White, wanted to place a neighborhood business in the Southeast to “amplify it's beauty and deeply rooted cultural history in Lancaster City, with aim to bring more resources and educational tools to the area with the growth of our business,” Colon says. “The area is fitting for our business theme about blossoming from the concrete despite all of the things that could have held you back.” Colon and White want to give back to the community through empowering, educational, and expressive programming.

They plan to open with 5 wines: Moscato, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling, Rose, and Chardonnay. Although wine will be the highlight A Concrete Rose, they will also offer coffee, herbal teas, tapas, and artisanal charcuterie boards.
As performing artists of color (Colon as a Poet and White as a Choreographer), they felt compelled to create a space they’ve always sought: one where they felt comfortable to create, meet, and showcase their art in a safe place free of judgment. "We expect people to walk in and feel at home despite their differences. Home feels like peace, warmth and love and we hope to provide everyone that walks in our doors with that,” Colon says. They aim to open in Summer 2021.
