Friday 27 June 2025 A weekly round-up of the latest news and information about courts and tribunals | | We're delighted that the HMCTS Update has now reached 50,000 subscribers - a remarkable milestone that reflects your continued interest in our operational news and service improvements. Thank you for being part of our community and for helping us share important updates about court and tribunal services across England and Wales. | | A six-week public consultation on a proposal to permanently close Lancaster Crown Court is closing soon. The court, located in a Grade I listed 12th century castle, hasn't held hearings since 2019 due to accessibility issues and a lack of modern facilities. Under this proposal, criminal cases would continue at Preston Crown Court, while the nearby Lancaster Courthouse would remain available for civil hearings. The consultation closes at 11.59pm on Wednesday 2 July 2025. | | Since 2018, our Online Civil Money Claims service has revolutionised financial dispute resolution, replacing paper forms with a fully digital system. Our case study shows how over 495,000 claims from unrepresented users have been processed, with more than 162,000 resolved without hearings. The service offers real-time updates, plain language guidance, and 24/7 access, while processing cases three times faster than paper-based equivalents. Support remains available for those who need it, with consistently positive user feedback on the service's accessibility and efficiency. | | What did you think of this email? | | |
