Hello Fellow Woodworkers,
A quick newsletter to remind you all of the upcoming Brisbane Timber and Working with wood show. This event is being held at the usual venue RNA Showgrounds in Brisbane between the 26th - 28th of May. We will have the usual set up with our complete range of hand planes and vices to try and buy, as well as a selection of Colen Clenton marking out tools.
This year will be a bit different with a guest demonstrator at our stand - Steve Hay! For those of you that don't know Steve, he has a vast background in woodwork, and is responsible for the great YouTube channel ''Wood Working Master Class'' and " Room for Woodworking" . Steve will be focusing his demos on making mouldings with rebate planes and Hollows and Rounds, and will also be doing some demos on using planes for joinery.
I will also be involved with doing a presentation at the show, ''From Sharp to Blunt" which will be looking at what happens as your blades get blunt. You may be surprised at what actually happens in this process and the knowledge will help you get the most out of your edge tools and guide you with which edge tools are best suited to certain tasks.
Speaking of Steve Hay, we have been working together to come up with an exciting video on ''Plane Joinery''. This will be a video about joinery using purely hand planes, and demonstrates how simple it can be to make a cabinet carcass with just a few select planes. Check out the below picture for a sneak peak.
I would also like to quickly mention a fantastic YouTube competition that is currently being run by ''Wood by Wright''. Go to his YouTube channel and watch the video ''Tool build off 2017 announcement'' for the full details. The basic idea is to build your own hand plane and video the process you went through to do it. The plane that you build will then be given to someone wanting to get into woodwork, and you will go into the draw to win one of the prizes up for grabs. We will be selecting 1 winner to win a 3/4" Ebony shoulder plane.
Hope you are all well and enjoying your woodwork!
Regards,
Terry Gordon
Planemaker.
